River House at Odette's venue lit up at twilight in New Hope PA

River House at Odette’s Wedding Guide | New Hope, PA

I’ve photographed weddings at River House at Odette’s in every season, and it’s one of the coolest venues I’ve ever worked. If you’re planning a wedding here, this is what I’d tell you about how the day actually goes.

The property sits right on the Delaware River with rolling hills behind it, and every room has its own personality. It photographs well in any month, with any guest count, and bad weather just makes it moodier.

Nothing in this guide came from a brochure. It’s all from shooting real weddings on the property.

Why Couples Choose River House at Odette’s

  • The river views from every angle. The Delaware and those green rolling hills are behind everything. You see them from the bridal suite upstairs, from the back deck during your vows, even from the dance floor through the glass.
  • Every room is different. Each space has its own character, which gives your day natural variety without anyone leaving the property.
  • The food is phenomenal. In-house catering with combinations that are ridiculously good. Your guests will be talking about dinner.
  • It works in every season. I’ve shot here in December (the 20th, actually), in the spring, in the middle of summer. It’s gorgeous year-round.
  • Romantic no matter the weather. Rain at River House at Odette’s actually adds to the vibe. The river, the hills, the mist. It all creates mood.
  • New Hope is a destination. Your guests get to explore one of the most fun, artsy towns in Bucks County. It turns your wedding into a whole weekend.
  • The staff is great. Easy to work with, and they keep the day moving without anyone feeling rushed.

Getting Ready at River House at Odette’s

On-Site Bridal Suites

The bridal suites at River House at Odette’s overlook the Delaware River and have their own balconies. The light up there is some of the best on the property, and the morning never feels rushed.

  • River-facing suites with balcony access
  • Natural light is excellent for getting-ready photos
  • Close to ceremony and reception spaces, so there’s zero transit stress

Off-Site Airbnb Option

One bride I worked with rented a really cool Airbnb nearby for getting ready. It worked well, but here’s my biggest tip:

If you go off-site, have BOTH the bride and groom get ready at the same location. Don’t split the parties across town. It makes the logistics for first look, portraits, and timeline management so much easier. When one party is 20 minutes away, you’re burning time driving instead of shooting.

Best Options for Larger Wedding Parties

  • Book the on-site suites so bridesmaids and groomsmen can spread out across multiple rooms
  • If the party is big enough that the suites feel tight, consider a nearby Airbnb for one group while the other uses the venue suites
  • New Hope has great rental options within a 5-minute drive

Ceremony Options at River House at Odette’s

Outdoor Ceremony on the Back Deck

Every ceremony I’ve ever photographed at River House at Odette’s has been outside on the back deck, and every single one has been incredible.

  • The deck overlooks the Delaware River with hills rolling out behind it
  • Natural beauty does the heavy lifting, so you don’t need a ton of extra decor
  • The backdrop works in every season and every lighting condition
  • Guests face the river, so your ceremony photographs have depth and color behind every frame

Indoor Ceremony Option

I’ve personally never done an indoor ceremony at this venue because the outdoor deck is just that good. But the ballroom and interior spaces have enough character and natural light to work if weather forces the move. The full-length glass doors in the ballroom still give you those river views even from inside.

Cocktail Hour and Reception Spaces

Cocktail Hour Flow and Guest Experience

Cocktail hour at River House at Odette’s comes with incredible views. Your guests are looking out at the water from a balcony, drinks in hand, and the energy is always relaxed.

One honest note: The cocktail hour space runs narrow. Smaller guest lists feel intimate in there. Larger weddings pushing toward the venue’s capacity can get a little tight, so walk through the setup with your coordinator ahead of time.

Reception Room Layout and Vibe

The main reception room at River House at Odette’s has beautiful wood flooring that photographs really well. Full-length glass doors line the wall facing the river, so even at night you get that dramatic contrast of warm interior light against the dark water and hills.

  • Wood floors add warmth and texture to the space
  • Glass doors bring the river into the room
  • The room has a natural flow for dinner, toasts, and dancing
  • Lighting after dark creates a really clean, elegant look

Best Photo Locations at River House at Odette’s

This venue is loaded with options. You’re never scrambling to find a good spot.

  • The riverfront pathway. This is where I always do first looks. There are tons of spots along the path in front of the river, and each one has a slightly different feel depending on how far you walk.
  • Along the Delaware River. You can walk down quite a bit along the water and keep finding unique nooks and crannies. Every turn gives you something new.
  • The back deck. Where your ceremony happens, but it’s also gorgeous for portraits before or after.
  • Indoor rooms. Every room inside has different character. This is your backup plan if weather turns, and honestly, the rooms are good enough that it never feels like settling.
  • The balcony. Great for a quick portrait with the river below.

First Look Locations

The riverfront pathway is the go-to for first looks at River House at Odette’s. The light stays soft down there, and you’re far enough from the building that the moment feels private.

Golden Hour and Night Portraits

Sunset at River House at Odette’s

Golden hour here is something else. The light hits those hills across the river and the water throws it right back like a reflector. You get photographs that look like a magazine spread without working for them.

  • Best timing depends on your wedding month, but I always build a sunset portrait break into the reception timeline
  • The riverfront pathway and back deck are the best spots for golden hour
  • Even a quick 10-minute sneak-away during dinner can give you jaw-dropping results

Night Portraits

River House at Odette’s looks amazing after dark. The whole building glows against the black water and hills, and the contrast is dramatic.

December wedding story: I shot a wedding here on December 20th. It was 70 degrees during the day, but when nighttime hit, the chill brought mist into the air. That mist made the backlit photos completely unique. You could see the light cutting through the haze in a way that doesn’t happen in warmer months.

I’ve done a sparkler send-off here that was one of the best I’ve ever shot. The dark river and hills behind the venue make sparklers pop in a way that flat parking lots just can’t match.

Seasonal Weddings at River House at Odette’s

Spring Weddings

  • Everything is green and alive along the river
  • Evenings carry a slight chill that adds atmosphere (and makes for great backlit photos when there’s a little mist)
  • Outdoor ceremony on the deck is comfortable for guests

Summer Weddings

  • Long golden hours give you maximum portrait time
  • The river breeze keeps things cooler than you’d expect
  • Peak greenery along the riverbank

  • One of the most popular seasons here for good reason

Planning Tips That Make the Day Run Smoothly

  • Plan your parking situation early. This is the biggest logistical challenge at River House at Odette’s. Parking is limited, and many weddings use off-site parking with a shuttle bus. Get the shuttle booked early and make sure your invitations include clear parking instructions for guests.
  • Build a sunset portrait break into your reception timeline. The golden hour here is too good to skip. Even 10 minutes will give you incredible photographs.
  • If getting ready off-site, keep both parties at the same location. This saves 30-45 minutes of driving time and keeps your first look and portrait session stress-free.
  • Don’t over-decorate the ceremony space. The back deck and river do the work for you. Save your budget for the reception.
  • Talk to the venue about cocktail hour flow. The space runs narrow, so go over the setup with your coordinator and make sure it fits your guest count comfortably.
  • Book rooms at the venue or nearby for the wedding party. New Hope is a great overnight destination, and having everyone close keeps the morning relaxed.
  • Plan a sparkler send-off. The dark river backdrop makes this one of the best sparkler venues I’ve ever shot.
  • Give your guests something to do in New Hope. Restaurants, shops, galleries. Add a list to your wedding website so out-of-town guests can explore before and after the wedding.

My Approach to Photographing River House at Odette’s Weddings

I’ve been photographing weddings for 21 years, and River House at Odette’s is one of my favorite venues to work. The river, the hills, the chic interiors, the relaxed New Hope energy. Couples loosen up here without anyone having to coach them.

I keep things moving and let the venue do the heavy lifting. I know where the light falls at every hour, which pathway spots work for a first look, and when to pull you outside during dinner for a sunset portrait. You don’t need to worry about the photography plan. That’s my job.
