Loews Philadelphia Hotel is inside the PSFS building, the tower at 1200 Market Street that reshaped the Philadelphia skyline when it debuted in 1932. I have photographed weddings at Loews Philadelphia. We love working at the Loews, especially taking couples out for some night photographs.

If you are planning a Loews Philadelphia Hotel wedding, this guide covers the rooms the hotel lists for weddings, getting ready upstairs, what the ceremony package includes, the prices Loews publishes, and the spots I go to for photographs, the roof included.

Why Couples Choose Loews Philadelphia

Loews gives you a landmark and a hotel in the same building. Your people get ready upstairs, the reception is an elevator ride away, and so is bed at the end of the night for anyone staying over.

  • George Howe and William Lescaze designed the tower for the Philadelphia Savings Fund Society, the first savings bank in the United States. It went on the National Register of Historic Places in 1976.
  • In 1969 the Philadelphia chapter of the American Institute of Architects named it the most important building constructed in Philadelphia in the previous century.
  • Your reception can be in the old bank. The original banking hall has been restored as an event space.
  • The rooms upstairs are modern and spacious, and the hotel lists 581 guestrooms, including 16 suites, for your family and friends.
  • The 33rd floor, which Loews calls the crown jewel of the hotel, has rooms that open right onto a large terrace over the city.
  • Loews lists custom catering options, including kosher, halal and regionally inspired menus.
  • The wedding packages come with a dedicated Couples Concierge.

And then there is the roof. From up there you are looking east over Center City to the Ben Franklin Bridge and the Delaware River.

Even the guest room windows have a view. On the west side you are looking right at City Hall’s tower, with One and Two Liberty Place behind it.

If you are still comparing Center City venues, my guide to the best Philadelphia wedding venues is a good place to start.

What I Tell Couples Before a Loews Philadelphia Wedding

Which room I’d pick

For a big wedding, the main ballroom is my first pick. For a smaller wedding, go up to the top floor, the 33rd floor, with the Howe and Lescaze rooms. It’s often used for cocktail hour, and I do a lot of first looks up there.

A hidden spot nobody talks about

The escalator area with the steps from the main lobby into the ballroom. It’s a kind of hidden entranceway, and there’s almost never anyone there. It’s great for portraits, the wedding party or a first look.

Getting ready

The light in the rooms is amazing. If you can, go all out with one of the Presidential Suites. It’s incredible, and it’s really big. One heads-up: it’s all glass, so if your room faces the sunrise side, it can get hot on a summer day with the sun pouring in.

The roof and night photographs

Daytime rooftop portraits are the easier ask. The hotel isn’t too fond of rooftop shoots at night, and you usually have to arrange the roof with them ahead of time. For night photographs I walk couples about a block and a half to a little park area just off Ludlow Street. It’s lit up with street lights, sometimes string lights too. City Hall is the other way, but it’s a longer walk.

Build in Time for Elevators and the Valet

Sometimes it takes one or two elevators to get to your room. Loews is a busy, popular hotel, so build in extra time for check-in and for getting your car back from the valet.

The Wedding Spaces at Loews Philadelphia

These are the rooms Loews lists for weddings, by the hotel’s own names. I am leaving guest counts out on purpose. The hotel’s pages and charts give different numbers for some of the same rooms, so get yours from your Catering Manager.

Millennium Hall

Millennium Hall is the old bank. The hotel’s 2022 wedding brochure says it sits on the original banking level of the PSFS Bank, with marble and granite walls, the bank vault and a Cartier clock. The wedding page mentions large windows for natural light, and the room page puts it on the 2nd floor with a 30-foot ceiling and its own pre-function space.

The Regency Ballroom

The Regency is on the 2nd-floor Mezzanine, with an 18-foot ceiling and its own pre-function space. Its room page says it divides into four sections.

Commonwealth Hall

Loews says larger weddings can take the entire hall, or use its semi-private smaller spaces for something more intimate. It has its own pre-function area too.

The Howe Room, the Lescaze and The Terrace

These are on the 33rd floor, which was originally reserved for the highest levels of PSFS leadership. Loews says it recently completed a renovation of the 33rd-floor meeting rooms and other event spaces. The Howe Room has a 15-foot ceiling and direct access to the terrace. The Lescaze gives you a bit more intimacy, the hotel says, and it opens onto the terrace too. The Terrace can be used alone or combined with either room.

Whiskey & Rye at Bank & Bourbon

Whiskey & Rye is inside Bank & Bourbon, the hotel’s restaurant. Its spaces adjust to the size of your party, and there is what the hotel calls a special secret room.

Getting Ready at Loews Philadelphia

The rooms at the Loews are so beautiful, modern, and spacious. They have a suite for really huge bridal parties that runs almost the length of the entire side of the hotel, so if your crew is big, that is the one to ask about.

The wedding packages page lists complimentary accommodations for the two of you on the wedding night, with chocolate-dipped strawberries and VIP turn-down service, and upgraded rooms for your parents. Loews marks those with an asterisk and says to speak with your Couples Concierge for details.

Which side of the hotel you are on changes the view. On the east side, a high room looks out over Center City to the Ben Franklin Bridge and the Delaware River.

Ceremony Options at Loews Philadelphia

Loews says all of its wedding spaces, the 33rd floor included, are the perfect backdrop to say “I do.” It sells a ceremony package, and the wedding packages page lists what comes with it: dedicated rehearsal space, setup and teardown on the day of the wedding, Chivari chairs, a champagne toast, a citrus-infused water station, and the ceremony space for up to three hours. The prices are in the cost section below.

The weddings in this guide had their ceremonies at churches, then came back to the hotel for portraits and the reception, so I do not have photographs of a ceremony inside the Loews to show you.

Cocktail Hour and Reception at Loews Philadelphia

The packages page lists butler passed wine and a signature cocktail at cocktail hour. Millennium Hall, the Regency Ballroom and Commonwealth Hall each have a pre-function space of their own, and Commonwealth Hall’s room page calls its pre-function area ideal for welcome cocktails.

The packages come with a custom-crafted menu, and the hotel’s FAQ says a private tasting is scheduled three to six months before the wedding.

The reception hall in these photographs is a big, high-ceilinged room with a marble wall and a large clock. Here it is with purple uplighting and tall white centerpieces.

Best Spots for Photographs at Loews Philadelphia

The roof under the PSFS sign

This is the one. You are standing under the giant PSFS letters with the city all around you. The hotel says you can see those red neon letters from as far as 20 miles away. Most couples take photographs on the roof at night, but the daytime views of the bridges, city, and river are unreal.

Behind the sign, the steel framework makes a frame of its own, with blue panels overhead and the city beyond.

From above, the ledge gives you the Jefferson tower, the rowhome blocks and the Delaware River in one frame.

The marble staircase and the big clock

Inside, there is a wide marble staircase with brass handrails beside the escalator, under a big clock on a black stone wall. It works for the two of you, and it is where I have done family formals here.

The wood-paneled room with the wall of windows

Upstairs there is a wood-paneled room with parquet floors and a wall of tall gridded windows facing One and Two Liberty Place. On another wall, a big blue abstract painting hangs over a black leather bench, and it makes a clean, modern bridal portrait.

City Hall up the street

Step off the property and City Hall’s tower is right there at the end of a nearby Center City street, between the office buildings.

The escalator at night

When you come back in from night photographs outside, the escalator by the entrance doors makes a great black and white frame.

What Does a Loews Philadelphia Wedding Cost?

Loews Philadelphia Hotel publishes its wedding prices on its wedding packages page: the Loews Philadelphia Wedding Package is $159++ per person, and the Loews Philadelphia Luxury Wedding Package is $189++ per person, based on a five hour event.

The ceremony package is $3,000++ for up to 100 guests and $5,000++ for 100 or more guests. To reserve your date, the hotel’s FAQ says Loews requires 25% of the agreed-upon food and beverage minimum. Valet is $60.02 per night, inclusive of tax and subject to change.

Because the packages are priced per person, every name on your guest list moves the total. These are the hotel’s numbers, not mine, so confirm current pricing with Loews.

Planning Tips for a Loews Philadelphia Wedding

  • Ask your Couples Concierge early about getting up to the roof for photographs, and think about going while it is still light. Night is when most couples go, but daylight gives you the bridges and the river.
  • If your bridal party is big, ask about the suite that runs almost the length of the side of the hotel.
  • Ask which way your getting-ready room faces. East looks to the Ben Franklin Bridge and the river, west looks at City Hall and Liberty Place.
  • If your ceremony is at a church, use the hotel as home base. Get ready upstairs, go to the church, and come back for portraits and the reception.
  • Plan on a Day of Wedding Coordinator. Loews says your Catering Manager will be there on the day, but because weddings are so detailed, it suggests one.
  • Tell guests who are driving that self-parking is not at the hotel. The hotel says there are options within a two-block radius, the valet GPS address is 12 South 12th St., and valet will not take oversized vehicles such as 10+ passenger vans.
  • If your menu needs specialized ethnic or religious dishes the hotel cannot replicate, ask your Catering Manager for the list of approved outside vendors.

My Approach to Photographing Loews Philadelphia Hotel Weddings

I have been photographing weddings since 2005, and I am at 500+ weddings now. I take at most fifteen weddings a year on purpose, so the ones I take get all of my attention. I never shoot one alone. There is always at least one other professional photographer with me, and cinematographers when couples want video too.

At the Loews that coverage matters, because a hotel wedding moves between a lot of floors, and sometimes out to a church and back. With two of us, someone can be with each of you while you get ready, and we can move from the suites to the roof to the reception hall without you waiting on us.

What I care about does not change from building to building. I want you to look at these photographs in twenty years and remember how the day felt.

If Loews Philadelphia Hotel is on your list, I would love to hear about your day.
