Why I photograph weddings
People ask why I have stuck with wedding photography for twenty plus years. The honest answer is in the letter below. Laura sent it after her wedding to Justin, and it is the kind of note that reminds me what the job actually is. Not delivering a gallery. Not pulling off a portrait window. The job is being in the room well enough that the people in it forget you are working, and then giving them back something they can hand to a grandmother.
| “Jordan! I have seriously been meaning to write you back for well over a week! What can I say other than I have been completely distracted ogling at my wedding pictures and entertaining pooches…
Quick story for you: gram gram #1 (the tiny one in purple) called me when we got home from our honeymoon to tell me about the wonderful time she had BUT to also tell me how much she adored you. She told me that she was dancing and felt someone lean on her back and Kat told her to look behind her, and it was you. When I told her that moment was captured on film she was so “tickled.” (oh the things our grandparents say) She demanded I give her your phone number and address so she could thank you herself, so don’t be surprised if gram gram pays you a visit. Jordan you gave my family, Justin and myself the best of memories by capturing every detail and emotion that came with that day. But, even more awesome is that you were there celebrating us and the crazy couple we are, and you seriously gained yourself a rather large fan club. You have an innate ability to find the emotion and tell the most amazing story. We love all our pictures, but you had us fighting tears when we saw our ceremony pictures and laughing until we cried when we saw the reception pics. Your style is beautifully diverse and genuine and we just cannot thank you enough! There’s only one possible way to end this.. WHAT, WHAT! ” –Laura and Justin |

Planning a Philadelphia or Jersey Shore wedding?
If this is the kind of coverage you want for your own day, I keep a working list of the best Philadelphia wedding venues and the best Jersey Shore wedding venues. Real venues, real notes. Get in touch if you want to talk through your day. I cap at fifteen weddings a year so the calendar fills early, and most weddings run with a second photographer and often a small film team.
