Emily and Brad found me from another Rehoboth Beach Country Club wedding I photographed a few years back, one that ran in The Knot magazine. They are a genuinely interesting couple. They have great style, which you can see in his navy tux and her Kleinfeld Bridal gown. They are both veterinarians who live in Manhattan, so we shot their get-to-know-you session uptown by their apartment. They absolutely love their dog, which comes through clearly in the mini session we ran with him on the wedding day.
About Rehoboth Beach Country Club
Rehoboth Beach Country Club sits on the western shore of Rehoboth Bay in Rehoboth Beach, Delaware, about 15 minutes inland from the Atlantic boardwalk. The club opened in 1925 and was redesigned in the early 2000s by golf architect Lester George, who reworked the par-71 layout so several holes finish right on the water. The clubhouse, ceremony lawn, and reception ballroom all face the bay, which means you get sunset light over the water during cocktail hour without ever leaving the property. Fun fact, the club’s waterfront dock is wide enough to handle a 20-person bridal party for portraits, and it doubles as the launch point for the bay paddle and sailing programs the club has run since the late 1940s. Most weekend weddings here run 150 to 200 guests with the ceremony on the bay lawn and the reception inside the renovated clubhouse.
Brad and the groomsmen rented a private house with all the guys to stay at and prep on the wedding day. I love this idea of renting a house and spending a weekend on it with your closest friends. A few years back I remember a wedding in Cape May where the guys did the same thing and they stayed up all night watching “Over the Top” with Silvester Stallone on VHS tape. It was a given that alcohol was involved in that late-night movie marathon. One of the coolest gifts I have seen for the groomsmen was Brad’s gift of custom pocket survival knives for each groomsman. One side had the groomsmen’s initials and the other a custom vintage graphic.
Emily and the girls had their preps at the Rehoboth Beach Country Club and then it was time for the couple’s reveal/first look. It was such a beautiful moment when they saw each other for the first time. The rain held out and we brought their pooch out for a quick mini session before the bridal party was ready to rock. I absolutely love the dock there to photograph on. The width of the dock can accommodate bridal parties of up to probably 20 or so.
The outdoor Rehoboth Beach Country Club ceremonies are beautiful with the bay as the backdrop. Emily and Brad had a private tent set up beside the water for outdoor cocktail hour before the reception kicked off. Guests pulled clams from the raw bar while the late afternoon light came off the bay in flat gold. Family on both sides were terrific, the bridal party stayed loose, and I had an incredible time with them. I cannot wait to see what they choose for their wall art and their final custom wedding album.
