About Grounds for Sculpture and the Princeton thread
Kate and Trevor’s wedding ran the full Princeton arc before it ever touched Hamilton. Both of them got ready at the historic Nassau Inn on Palmer Square, married at St Paul’s Catholic Church on Nassau Street, climbed into a vintage Rolls Royce for the five minute drive, and stopped on the Princeton University campus for bridal party portraits before heading to Rat’s Restaurant at Grounds for Sculpture for the reception. Most Grounds for Sculpture weddings start at the venue. This one used the venue as the closing chapter, which made the gallery feel more like a campus wedding film than a single-location shoot. If you have Princeton ties, that pairing is worth thinking about.
St Paul’s Catholic Church in Princeton
St Paul’s Catholic Church on Nassau Street is the kind of full-Mass Catholic ceremony space where the natural light through the side windows does most of the work for you. We shot the processional from the back, switched to the side aisle for the vows so the altar light stayed clean, and grabbed the recessional from the centerline. Kate’s father walked her up the aisle, and the Rolls Royce pulled up at the front entrance for the exit, which is the frame everyone asks me about when they see this gallery. If you are getting married at St Paul’s and pairing it with a Grounds for Sculpture reception, the Nassau Inn is the bridal preps spot to use. It is a five minute walk to the church and a fifteen minute drive to Hamilton.
Top Gun grand entrance, Miami band, Rat’s after dark
Kate and Trevor walked into their reception at Rat’s wearing aviator sunglasses with the Top Gun theme song playing, which was the kind of grand entrance that tells you exactly what the night was going to be. EBE’s Miami band carried the dance floor to last call. Kate had a separate grandfather granddaughter dance built into the schedule, which is one of those small additions that pays off in the album. The exterior of Rat’s at night, lit by the lanterns over the Monet bridge, is the closing frame I always try to get at this venue. We grabbed it just before the final set.
