Danielle and John’s Battello wedding in Jersey City was the kind of day that proves rain has no power over a great couple. The skyline didn’t care, the party didn’t care, and honestly neither did they, they just kept smiling and dancing through the whole thing. Battello sits right on the Hudson with views straight across to Manhattan, and the rustic chic interior gave us so many gorgeous spots for portraits even when we couldn’t go outside. Keep scrolling for the full day, from Westin bridal preps to Saint Ann Roman Catholic Church in Hoboken to the reception. (And if you want to see another NJ wedding photographer portfolio piece, this one is a fun place to start.)
A Quick Note on Battello
Battello sits at 502 Washington Boulevard right on the Jersey City waterfront, on a pier jutting out over the Hudson with full-on views of the Manhattan skyline. The space is contemporary Italian with seafood, with a menu designed by Chef Ryan DePersio (one of New Jersey’s top chefs). The vibe inside is half industrial, half luxe, soaring ceilings, exposed beams, two bars, a lounge, multiple dining rooms, and a bridal suite. It feels different than every other wedding venue around here, kind of like if Reading Terminal Market grew up and moved to a Brooklyn pier.

The Westin Jersey City Bridal Preps
Danielle and her bridesmaids got ready at the gorgeous Westin Hotel in Jersey City, with hair and makeup from Bliss Hair. One of the highlights of the morning was the emotional father-daughter reveal, captured perfectly in a heartwarming photo. Meanwhile, John and his groomsmen were relaxed and having a great time getting ready for the big day.

Groom Preps and First Look

Saint Ann Roman Catholic Church Hoboken Wedding Ceremony
The ceremony took place at the gorgeous Saint Ann Roman Catholic Church in Hoboken, just outside of Jersey City. The church, with its classic architecture, made for a beautiful backdrop. After Danielle and John shared their first kiss as husband and wife, we grabbed some drone footage of the church exterior before heading back to Battello for pre-cocktail hour photos.

Battello Jersey City Bridal Portraits
Battello in Jersey City was the perfect setting for Danielle and John’s bridal portraits, with incredible Manhattan skyline views. We used the glassed-in porch for most of their photos, including the first look, and the natural light throughout the venue was just perfect. (We always love working in this part of town, here’s a Jersey City engagement session we shot a few years back if you want to see more of the area.)

Battello Jersey City Wedding Reception
The staff at Battello were amazing, always willing to help and make the day run smoothly. The wine room was a welcome retreat on a hot day, a cool and comfortable space for guests to relax. The venue itself has a rustic chic vibe, with a gorgeous bar and plenty of great photo spots. To top it all off, the band, The Slippery Band, kept the party going all night with their music.

Why Battello Is One of My Favorite Wedding Venues
Battello is unlike any other venue I’ve shot at. It has this chic, almost Brooklyn feel to it, and the fact that it’s sitting on a pier overlooking the New York City skyline makes it just incredible. The vibes inside are so cool, and it’s such a unique space. I always do phenomenal work there, just phenomenal. And the best part for any couple worried about weather, even when it rained all day for Danielle and John, we still got gorgeous photos because Battello has this entire room lined with glass windows. Tons of natural light pours in, the skyline is right there, and it’s a really, really pretty space no matter what the forecast does.
It was an honor to photograph Danielle and John’s wedding day, and they were a pleasure to be around despite the rainy weather. We wish them all the best and are so grateful to have been part of their gorgeous Battello wedding in Jersey City.
