Daniel broke one of my favorite rules with this one. I love a proposal at golden hour, and Daniel wanted early afternoon. He had a really good reason, though. He wanted this Beneduce Vineyards proposal to end with both families there to celebrate with them the second it was over.
So he set up a brunch for about 12:30 in a private room upstairs at Beneduce Vineyards in Pittstown, out in Hunterdon County, New Jersey, with everybody waiting. Our job was to get Neha out into the vineyard, get a ring on her finger, and get her back inside without her figuring out who was upstairs.
Planning a Beneduce Vineyards Proposal Together
Daniel and I planned this one together over a couple of weeks. We picked a spot out in the middle of the vineyard and went through every detail: which direction Neha would be facing, where the sun would be, what they would wear.
Their outfits were perfect for a fall vineyard. Creams and browns, a soft sweater dress, a cream jacket. If you are planning a vineyard proposal in New Jersey in the fall, that is the palette. It sits right inside the colors of the place.
Sixty-Five Degrees and Not a Cloud in the Sky
The weather could not have been better. About 65 degrees and not one cloud.
We got there early and set up. Since we were filming the proposal too, I met Daniel in the restroom of the tasting room to mic him up. Everything was perfect. Then I ran out, jumped in my car, drove to the other end of the vineyard, and sprinted across to where my second shooter and our gear were set up.
Meanwhile, Daniel and Neha got a little wine tour from the Beneduce team, who walked them right out to the spot.
She Had No Idea
Daniel dropped to one knee with the vines all around them, and Neha was freaking out. She had no idea. None.

Then the biggest hug.

And a good long look at the ring.

A Little Time in the Vineyard
Once she said yes, my team popped out, which is always one of the most fun parts. Then we took some time to photograph the two of them out in the vineyard. The light was gorgeous.
First, the big old tree in the middle of the vineyard.

Then out into the rows.

And one where they just ran.

Then We Went Inside
From there we moved over to the main building. The old wood doors made a great backdrop, and so did the ring.

The building is full of little details, like this antique wine press.

Then I said, let’s just do some photographs inside.

That is when the families popped out and surprised them.

I love ending a proposal with the family’s reaction. It is one of the most beautiful things I get to photograph.

Family Photographs, Always
I always make time for fun family photographs after a proposal. Everybody is already together and dressed up, and those photographs end up meaning so much. I think it is one of the most special, important things we do that day.

One more look at that ring.

And then there is Daniel’s brother. I love this guy. I also have to point out his Air Jordan 3 Mochas, because they were extra clean that day.

I am so happy for Daniel. He planned something really thoughtful, and he pulled it off.
About Beneduce Vineyards in Pittstown, NJ
If you have never been to Beneduce Vineyards, go, even if you are not proposing. Especially in the fall. It is perfect.
Greenhouses line the property as you drive in, and some of them can be rented out. The one I love is called the Tropical Oasis, and it is filled with fig, palm and citrus trees. It had a private event the day we were there, or I would have taken Daniel and Neha straight in.
The main building is really pretty, with giant stainless steel wine vats, rustic but really well put together. Outside you have an outdoor eating area, an outdoor stage, and fire pits everywhere.
Is a winery a good place to propose? I think so, and this day is why. The staff walked them right out to the spot, there was a private room upstairs for the whole family to wait in, and the vines, the tree and the old barn doors gave us a different backdrop every few minutes.
And a huge thank you to the Beneduce staff. They were phenomenal and super helpful, and they helped make this proposal absolutely perfect for Daniel and Neha. I am really grateful to them.
