Caitlynn & Nick’s planned their Smithville fall Engagement photos at the perfect time of year. The leaves were starting to change color, and the air was crisp. We had some lighthearted fun, a few photobombs and did some walking.
Historic Smithville Park spans 344 acres in Burlington County, NJ, built around Hezekiah B. Smith’s 1860s industrial village. Smith constructed the lake himself to power his factory, and the winding trail system follows the original mill race paths. The bridges connecting the trail over the water are original infrastructure, not decorative, which makes it one of the most genuinely layered outdoor locations in South Jersey for engagement sessions.
So Caitlynn pretty much loves the fall as many do. We photographed at Smithville Park which is a beautiful location in South Jersey that has a pretty long-running path that wraps around a beautiful lake with bridges connecting the trail with a few wooden lookout points. We photographed all around the area and even checked out the boat launch ramp.
One of my favorite artistic endeavors is to photograph double exposures on film. It requires you to think about the subject background and how they will blend. Also, you don’t see the results until you get your film back from development. I wanted to include the fall colors, water and the couple together in their double exposure. I love how this came out!
Nick is a stone-cold bro. Just wanted a cool way to say he looks great with black and white film. I love photographing with black and white film. I’ve learned a few new techniques to expand my love of the world in greyscale which I will be rocking in the next year.
For some reason, there were so many excellent random people that we had a few fun photobombs during their session. We are walking and photographing in different spots while I pull in some complete strangers for a quick photo and then keep going. We found the Rancocas Valley High School track team while on the run and pulled them in for a photograph. Also, a gentleman walking two gorgeous pooches allowed us to borrow them for a quick photo.
