Princeton University Engagement photos – Alana & David

Oh my it was a hot day for Alana & David’s Princeton University engagement photos, but it was not from the weather.  Thanks to Rent the Runway Alana rocked a sparkling sequin gold dress that went very well with David’s navy blue suit.  After 11 years of photographing professionally I know that clothing can make or break a session.

Alana & David, like my past couple Trevor & Kate, met at Princeton University hence why we had to do Princeton University engagement photos on campus.  I believe they met Freshman year so there is so much history behind all the locations and he even proposed to her there.   Every spot we went to was a new story of a time they had there.  It was refreshing to hear so much about the couple hence why I call the sessions GTKY (getting to know you)!

Princeton University’s campus spans 600 acres in Princeton, NJ and has been home to some of the most storied architecture in the country since 1746. Nassau Hall once served as the seat of the Continental Congress and was the temporary US capital in 1783. Blair Arch, built in 1897, is one of the most photographed spots on campus. The mix of Collegiate Gothic buildings, open courtyards, and tree-covered paths makes Princeton a legitimately beautiful backdrop for engagement sessions in New Jersey.

Best locations for Princeton University engagement photos

When you visit Princeton University’s campus it is a bit overwhelming as to where to photograph.  Here are a few of my favorite spots:

Nassau Hall:
This is the first building you see when you enter the campus off of Nassau Street.  It has quite a bit of tree coverage for harsh lit summer days.  The building is also very classy with vines of ivy running up the walls.

Woodrow Wilson School:
I love the pillars at this school!  They also have these new quirky Chinese symbols made out of metal that are huge.  The water fountain also makes an incredible backdrop behind couples.   If your subjects are a bit adventurous they can roll up their pants take their shoes off and hop in.

Blair Arch:
This is such a classic building archway that every Princeton student knows about.  It offers a beautiful backdrop when photographing a couple inside and also offers great light no matter what time of day.

Firestown Library:
The courtyard in front of this library has so many photographic opportunities. The light is amazing towards sunset in this area.  This is also Pokemon central on campus!

Whig and Clio Halls:
For those couples that love classic giant pillars and architecture.  These are better to photograph later in the day due to the position of the sun facing the front of the buildings.  The doors in the entranceway are also gorgeous and very tall for backgrounds of your photographs.

Pokemon Takeover at Princeton!

I am going to make a bold statement.  I don’t play Pokemon!  That’s right!  But apparently everyone and their mother likes to play at this one Princeton courtyard area.  There were probably 75-100 people just staring at their phones like zombies.

Alana & David’s wedding at Crystal Tea room this fall is going to be amazing!  I can’t wait to spend the day with them and their friends.  Also one of my favorite all time couples will be in the building: Trevor and Kate!  Let’s do this….
