Longwood Gardens Engagement Photography – Christian & Allie

Longwood Gardens engagement session

Allie & Christian are a very stylish, fun, outgoing couple that had a ton of laughs during their Longwood Gardens engagement photography. They had a beautiful fall day. There were few flowers in bloom, but the grounds and the sky were stunning. We walked all around the grounds and captured almost everything in detail. At the end of their session, they had one of the most amazingly bright pink and red sunsets that I have ever seen. We created a beautiful Engagement session album for them and we wish them nothing but the best in the future.

Longwood Gardens in Kennett Square, Pennsylvania is one of the great horticultural showplaces on the East Coast. Pierre S. du Pont purchased the land in 1906 to save an 18th-century Quaker arboretum from being cut down for lumber, then spent the next four decades building it into something extraordinary. Today it covers over 1,000 acres with more than 4,000 plant species, a towering Victorian-era conservatory, outdoor fountain gardens, and meadow paths that shift with every season. Fall strips away the summer crowds and reveals the bones of the place, strong tree lines, open sky, and a quality of light that makes portraits feel like paintings.

What drew us out to Longwood for Allie and Christian’s engagement session was exactly that: fall light and open space. We covered a lot of ground together, moving through the archways, crossing the bridge, wandering into the open fields where the sky opened up. They were completely at ease with each other the entire time, which made the session feel less like a formal shoot and more like an afternoon walk that happened to produce great photographs. By the end, the sky delivered one of the most vivid pink-and-red sunsets I’ve captured at Longwood. Those last few frames in the fading light are some of the strongest from the session.

If you’re considering Longwood Gardens for your engagement session, fall and early spring are the windows worth targeting. The summer conservatory is spectacular but crowded; fall gives you space, color, and that evening light. Plan for two to three hours so you can move through the grounds without rushing.
