Megan and Kevin met me through a bride that I had photographed. They wanted to have their South Jersey engagement session before Kevin went overseas for a year in the service. We photographed their session on a comfortable winter day at a secret location in Vineland. They didn’t know where they wanted to photograph so we came up with a cool idea to do it on one of their family’s private Christmas tree farms. What a super fun laid back couple they are! Kevin did half their session in suit attire and another half in his sailor uniform. You need to look at the pants of the sailor uniform up close if you get a chance. There are about 20 buttons in the front area so good luck if you have to use the bathroom. On the way back I wanted to shoot on some abandoned train tracks, which I saw from the overpass on my way down. The spot was an adventure to find but well worth it. The backdrop was incredible by the train tracks that overlooked this beautiful brook. We created a gorgeous album for them to capture all the memories of their relationship…
Vineland, NJ is deep South Jersey, the kind of agricultural stretch that most people drive through on their way to the Shore without stopping. The family Christmas tree farms out here are the real thing, planted and tended over generations, with long rows of evergreens at every stage of growth. In winter, the farm has this quiet and dramatic quality, especially in low afternoon light. It is the sort of location you would never find in a standard venue guide. Finding spots like this, spots that mean something specific to a couple rather than appearing in every photographer’s portfolio, is a big part of why I love GTKY sessions.
