Alicia & Marc had a beautiful fall engagement session at Smithville Park. Smithville Park in Eastampton Township is one of South Jersey’s most underused engagement locations. It’s a 19th century mill village turned county park in Burlington County, about 25 miles from Philadelphia, with stone bridges, a lake, a covered wooden footbridge, and trails through old-growth trees that pop with color in October. Most couples go to Grounds for Sculpture or Longwood Gardens. The couples who come to Smithville get something more personal and far less crowded.
I loved what Alicia and Marc chose for their outfits. Marc wore a sport coat and at my suggestion added a pocket square. Whenever I am wearing a jacket I feel underdressed without one, and it reads beautifully in photographs. Small styling decisions like that are what separate a good engagement session from a great one. Alicia’s dress was perfect for the warm fall tones at Smithville.
We covered the main bridge, the lakeside path, and the open meadow near the historic village buildings. Smithville gives you a surprising amount of variety in a relatively compact area. An hour into it and we had already pulled a dozen strong frames. They were easy to direct and fun to spend time with, which made the whole session feel effortless.
Alicia and Marc were getting married at the Curtis Center in Philadelphia. The Curtis Center is one of Philadelphia’s landmark venues, housed in a 19th century building with the famous Dream Garden mosaic by Maxfield Parrish.
