“I’M ON A BOAT” KITTY KNIGHT HOUSE WEDDING OF OF AMANDA & SEAN
SASSAFRAS RIVER, MARYLAND
Amanda and Sean got married at Kitty Knight House on the Sassafras River in Maryland. The groomsmen arrived by boat, which is one of the more memorable logistics at any wedding I have documented across New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and Maryland. Amanda handled the florals herself. DJ Doug ran the reception. A second photographer named Kat captured behind-the-scenes frames that made it into this post.
Kitty Knight House, Georgetown Maryland
Kitty Knight House is a historic inn on the bank of the Sassafras River in Georgetown, Maryland, about two hours south of Philadelphia. The original structure dates to 1730 and survived the British burning of Georgetown in 1813 when occupant Catherine ‘Kitty’ Knight negotiated with the commanding officer to spare the homes. The property operates as an inn and restaurant and serves as a wedding venue with the main house, grounds sloping to the river, and dock access. The Sassafras feeds into the Chesapeake Bay and the water is calm enough for small craft most of the season. Couples looking for something away from a typical Philadelphia wedding venue often end up at a waterfront property like this one in Maryland.
The venue does not try to look like something it is not. It is a historic building on a tidal river and the photographs reflect that without additional styling. The grounds slope directly to the Sassafras so most outdoor frames have the water somewhere in them. That geography is the venue’s best feature.
