We shot Kim & Kevin’s GTKY in New Hope on May 2nd this year. While rebelliously creating with them on an old train car, we were already looking forward to their Cape May Beach Wedding! They are SUCH a fun couple to work with. We had photographed her cousin, Diana’s, wedding previously so it was nice to be able to see the whole family again. We started their day by creating with Kim while she was getting ready in a huge, beautiful beach home that they had rented. From there, we did their First Meet on a walkway leading right up to the beach. We took the whole bridal party out on to the shoreline to create, then took just Kim & Kevin on an impromptu drive to a lighthouse right down the road (while blasting some hip hop).
After creating some awesome black and white film images down at the lighthouse in Cape May, we went back to their gorgeous beach rental home for their Outdoor Cape May Wedding ceremony. They had a beautiful setup outside, and a tented area for their reception. Kim looked absolutely stunning in her full-length dress, coming down the aisle to exchange vows with her husband-to-be. Only one issue once she got down to the end of the aisle, everyone realized (and Kim exclaimed), “There is nobody here to marry us!” The mayor of Cape May, who was scheduled to marry them, wasn’t there yet because they tried to start the ceremony early. After the ceremony, Kim surprised Kevin by changing into another dress and making a grand entrance to the reception. Sideways rain and heavy gusts of wind didn’t stop the guests from partying the night away – even when the electric went out for a few minutes. We had such a wonderful time with them and wish them nothing but the best!

Cape May sits at the very southern tip of New Jersey where the Atlantic Ocean and Delaware Bay converge. It is one of the oldest seaside resorts in the country, with an intact Victorian streetscape that has been preserved since the 1800s. The beach provides a ceremony backdrop you cannot fabricate, and Cape May Point State Park a few miles down, with its historic lighthouse, adds a location with genuine character. Beach weddings here deal with the weather rather than around it, which is part of what makes the photographs look like people were actually living their day rather than posing in a parking lot.
I promised her cousin that we would do dust-buster portraits with the bride.
