ICONA Diamond Beach Wedding Guide | Wildwood, NJ

If you’re planning an ICONA Wildwood wedding, you probably already know this place means something to you. Most couples who book ICONA Diamond Beach didn’t find it on a venue list. They grew up coming to Wildwood every summer, and getting married on this beach just makes sense.

I’ve photographed weddings at ICONA Diamond Beach for years. This guide is what I’ve learned on those days, starting in the getting ready rooms and ending on the beach after dark.

Why Couples Choose ICONA Wildwood

  • Nostalgia is the number one reason. Most couples who book here grew up spending summers in Wildwood. The beach already meant something to them long before the wedding.
  • Everything is on-site. Hotel rooms, getting ready spaces, ceremony, cocktail hour, and reception all happen within steps of each other, so nobody needs a shuttle or a car between events.
  • The beach is right there. Ceremony tents sit directly on the sand. Portraits happen on the dunes, by the lifeguard stands, and along the water.
  • Valet parking takes care of guests. They pull up, hand over the keys, get a ticket. Simple.
  • Off-season availability. Spring and fall weddings at ICONA Diamond Beach are incredible, and you’re not competing with summer beach crowds.
  • The staff is great. The same team has been there for years, and it shows. They know the flow without being told, and the day runs smooth because of it.

ICONA Wildwood vs. ICONA Avalon

Couples researching ICONA weddings almost always compare these two properties. Same company, completely different experience.

ICONA Avalon leans luxury. High-end vibe, pool-adjacent cocktail hour, manicured grounds.

ICONA Wildwood (Diamond Beach) is more relaxed. Classic Jersey Shore energy, beach tents for ceremony and cocktail hour, nostalgia-driven.

Ceremony setup: At Wildwood, you’re on the beach under a tent or in the open air. At Avalon, the covered cocktail space is next to the pool, totally different layout.

Sunset: Both have beautiful sunsets, but Avalon offers elevated dune-top sunset views. Wildwood delivers beach-level sunset shots that are just as gorgeous.

The beach itself: Wildwood has a much wider stretch of sand from the dunes to the water. Avalon has a shorter walk to the ocean but a longer walk from the hotel to the beach.

The deciding factor for most couples: Where did you grow up going? That answer usually picks the venue.

Getting Ready at ICONA Diamond Beach

The building at ICONA Diamond Beach is taller than most Shore venues, the suites are modern, and almost every room looks out at the ocean. That matters in the morning. Wherever your party sets up, the room gets real natural light, and the getting ready photographs show it.

The Spalon (Bridal Getting Ready)

  • Located on the upper floors of the hotel
  • Set up like a real salon with professional chairs, mirrors, and stations
  • The entire room is white, bright, and surrounded by windows
  • Comfortably fits around 8 bridesmaids plus multiple hair and makeup artists working at the same time
  • The salon layout gives everyone a station of their own instead of crowding around one mirror

The Aloha Suite (Groom’s Getting Ready)

  • Right next door to The Spalon
  • This room is huge. It has a Murphy bed that folds into the wall and converts the space into a conference-style layout.
  • Actually bigger than The Spalon, which means plenty of room for the full groomsmen crew
  • Great for hanging out, playing cards, having a drink. The vibe is relaxed.

Smaller Wedding Parties

  • Hotel suites work perfectly for smaller groups
  • Ocean views, clean rooms, plenty of natural light
  • No need to book a separate getting ready space if your party is under 4-5 people

Ceremony Options at ICONA Diamond Beach

Beach Tent Ceremonies

  • Most ICONA Wildwood ceremonies happen in the beach tents directly on the sand
  • Tents can be fully open for clear weather or closed up if it gets windy or rainy. Built-in weather backup.
  • The views from inside the tent looking out toward the ocean are amazing
  • Guests sit right on the sand with you, which keeps the ceremony feeling close

Beachside Walkway Ceremony

  • Chairs set along the walkway from the parking area down to the beach
  • Works for a different look and feel than the tent setup

Honest note: When shooting the bride walking up the aisle, the background toward land includes the parking lot. It’s not the prettiest angle. I always work around this with composition, but it’s worth knowing.

My dream fix: Flowing fabric panels at the back of the aisle for the couple to walk through. It would look incredible against the beach backdrop. No one has done it yet, but if you want to be the first, I’m here for it.

Indoor Ceremony

There’s an indoor option too, whether the weather forces it or you just prefer being inside. The space is clean and the light holds up.

Cocktail Hour and Reception at ICONA Wildwood

Cocktail Hour Flow

  • Cocktail hour typically happens outdoors in one of the beach tents
  • If the ceremony is in one tent, cocktail hour moves to the second tent, literally 5 feet across the walkway
  • While guests are enjoying cocktail hour, the staff flips the ceremony tent into reception mode (if you’re doing the tent reception)
  • The flow between ceremony and cocktail hour is effortless. Guests just walk a few steps.

The Ballroom (Upstairs Reception)

  • Located on the upper floor with ocean views through glass doors
  • Looks brand new. Modern, clean, really well done.
  • The standout feature is the balcony overlooking the ocean, only 5-10 steps from the dance floor
  • Glass doors open up to the balcony, so the ocean is part of the reception all night

Full moon story: I’ve had two weddings here where we stepped out onto the balcony at night and the full moon was sitting right behind the couple over the water. Those are the kind of moments you can’t plan but I’m always ready for.

Beach Tent Reception

The tent is the opposite of the ballroom. You’re on the sand with the ocean breeze moving through all evening. Pick it if you want the beach woven into the whole night.

Best Photo Locations at ICONA Diamond Beach

After this many ICONA Wildwood weddings I don’t scout anymore. I walk the same loop every time, and these are the stops.

The Palm Tree Walkway

Palm trees on a New Jersey beach. The ones between the two tents throw long shadows and clean lines across the walkway, and no other venue I shoot has anything like them.

The Vintage Lifeguard Stands

Two lifeguard stands sit on the beach (not actively used, just there for the vibe). I take every couple here. They’re perfect for midday coverage when the sun is high because the stands give structure and shade.

The Dunes

Walk out into the dunes and the frame empties. Tall grass, sand, nothing else. These end up being the most relaxed portraits of the whole day.

The Private Community Next Door

Most couples don’t know about this. There are really unique tree formations and a small garden just next door. If you have enough time in the portrait schedule, it’s a great spot for something different.

The Beach Bungalows

Covered wooden bungalows sit right on the beach, and almost nobody thinks to use them. When weather rolls in, they let me keep family formals outside instead of marching everyone back into the hotel. Even on a clear day, if one is empty, I’ll pull the couple or a family in for a quick portrait. The wood against the beach looks really cool.

Ballroom Balcony at Night

Stand on the beach at night with the venue lit up behind you and the portrait nearly composes itself. The beach is flat, so the building fills the whole background.

One more thing about the beach: Wildwood has a very long stretch of sand from the dunes to the water. Way longer than most Shore beaches. Plan on sandals or going barefoot if you’re heading toward the waterline.

Sunset and Golden Hour at ICONA Diamond Beach

Sunsets here are some of the best on the Shore. The flat beach gives you a wide open sky.

Golden hour shifts with the season. In April, May, September, and October the sun sets during or just after dinner, so we can slip out for portraits without missing much of the reception.

Vintage car story: One couple brought their vintage convertible Mercedes right to the edge of the beach for sunset portraits. That kind of creative thinking is what makes ICONA Wildwood weddings so fun to photograph.

Off-Season Weddings at ICONA Diamond Beach

If you’re flexible on dates, off-season is the move at ICONA Wildwood.

  • Best months: April, May, September, October. November weddings are also phenomenal here.
  • Why off-season works: Wildwood empties out and the beach cools down. The light goes softer, and sunset lands close to your reception instead of hours before it.
  • Beach tents handle the weather. They close up for wind and rain, so you’re covered even if it’s a cooler evening.
  • Availability is better. You’ll have more date options and potentially better rates compared to peak summer.
  • The vibe changes. Off-season Wildwood feels quieter and more intimate. The beach is yours.

Planning Tips for a Smooth ICONA Wildwood Wedding

  • Do a first look. I push hard for this at ICONA Diamond Beach. Cocktail hour here is the loosest, most fun stretch of the day, and you shouldn’t spend it off somewhere posing. Get the couple and wedding party photographs done before the ceremony and you’re free for the rest of the night.
  • Don’t skip sunset beach photos. Even if it means stepping away from the reception for 10 minutes, the sunset on this beach is too good to pass up.
  • Plan your footwear for the beach. Wildwood’s beach is wide. Really wide. If you’re heading toward the water for photos, wear sandals or go barefoot. Heels in soft sand for a quarter mile is not the move.
  • Explore the private community next door. Ask me about this during your planning call. Most couples don’t know it’s there, and the tree formations and garden are great for portraits if we have time.
  • Consider fabric draping for walkway ceremonies. If you’re doing the beachside walkway setup instead of the tent, flowing fabric at the back of the aisle would completely transform the background.
  • Off-season dates are underrated. April, May, September, October, and November give you a quieter Wildwood, weather that usually holds, and light I’d take over July any day.
  • Trust the staff. The team at ICONA Diamond Beach has been there for years. They know the flow. Let them do their thing.

If this guide got you excited about your day here, tell me a little about it. I’ll be in touch within 24 hours.

How far ahead should I book my ICONA Diamond Beach wedding photographer?

For peak summer Saturdays in Wildwood, 12 to 18 months out is the safe window. Shoulder season weddings have a bit more flexibility but still go fast.

When’s the best time of day for couple portraits at ICONA Diamond Beach?

I plan your portrait window for the 60 to 75 minutes before sunset on the beach. The Atlantic light works in your favor at that hour, and we can pull a quick rooftop set right after if you want both looks.

Have you photographed weddings at ICONA Diamond Beach before?

Yes. I know the beach ceremony space, the ballroom layout, the bridal suite, and the back-of-house path between them well enough to keep the day on schedule even when the timeline gets tight.

Is ICONA Diamond Beach a good fit for guests staying overnight?

Yes. The resort handles guest accommodations on site, the Wildwood boardwalk is a short walk away for after-party energy, and Cape May is twenty minutes south for the day after.
